Coming Soon - Sneak Peak

Finally, fifth grade! And Kate is excited to be old enough to perform as a real ventriloquist in front of her classmates at Seaside Christian School as part of The Stars in The Making Team. She’s been preparing for tryouts for years since first seeing a ventriloquist perform at chapel. She gets pumped after seeing a ventriloquist her own age win the golden mic on the popular tv show “Who’s Got Talent.”

Except Kate’s plans don’t go as expected… There’s only one spot open for a ventriloquist or puppeteer.  Kate finds out her nemesis since forever is vying for the same role. To make matters worse Kate’s hit with a serious case of stage fright after watching a contestant bomb on “Who’s Got Talent.”

William, or Spewy McGooey as everyone calls him, actually because of a previous prank by Kate, does everything, he can to make Kate doubt her abilities, including a prank that propels Kate to prove she’s not a chicken landing her in after-school detention. Kate must find a way to get out of after-school detention or she will forfeit the audition run-off against William.

Kate’s plans continue to be blocked when she learns the auditions have been moved to the same day as the Animal Adoption Day. Kate must follow through on her agreement to run the Animal Adoption Day that she talked her veterinary parents into doing. As Kate attempts to figure out how to be in two places at once, she becomes attached to a puppy with a birth defect, unlikely to be adopted. Kate may be forced to take him to the animal shelter or the pet orphanage, as Kate calls it. The thought of this is heartbreaking to Kate, a former orphan from India, born with a cleft palate.

Kate’s plans are blocked at every turn. As Kate attempts to fix her seemingly impossible problems, being in two places at once, overcoming stage fright, and getting out of detention, she finds herself in one messier mess after another. In the end, absolutely nothing turns out as Kate expected, and Kate discovers in the most unlikely way how people change and grow, including herself. The puppets become a way for Kate and William to communicate and come to realize the other’s perspective. And more than anything, Kate and her friends witness-first hand that nothing is impossible with God, even if God’s plans don’t line up with their own.

Anticipation is building for “Stars in the Making.” Explore exclusive excerpts from the book and get a first look at the adventures of Kate and her friends. Stay updated on release dates and upcoming events related to the book.
